Voices for Public Transportation (VPT) is a coalition of transit rider and worker unions, community-based organizations, and equity advocates across the Bay Area. VPT represents the voices of transit-dependent communities, many of whom are people with disabilities, low-income communities, and communities of color, who are too often excluded from local and regional transportation decisions.
Our coalition was founded in 2018 to advance a game-changing regional transportation measure to invest in our transit system so that all Bay Area residents can get around affordably and easily while protecting the climate.
The COVID-19 outbreak and the accompanying economic downturn changed everything, including delaying plans to put a regional transportation funding measure on the 2020 ballot. Public transit is facing an unprecedented financial crisis due to reduced ridership and revenue that threatens its existence as we know it. In the near term, VPT has shifted our focus to promoting health and safety and ensuring an equitable transit recovery, even as we continue to plan for a regional transportation measure that can help the Bay Area emerge stronger from the pandemic.

EMERGENCY TRANSIT OPERATIONS FUNDING
VPT continues to advocate for emergency transit operations funding for Bay Area operators to help them weather the COVID crisis and emerge stronger than before.
SAFETY FOR TRANSIT WORKERS AND RIDERS
After the pandemic struck in March 2020, VPT advocated for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to prioritize transit worker and rider safety.
